General Update #43

Joyce was still sleeping upon Dusty's return to Gritman ~7:30 a.m. Joyce woke as Dusty settled and reported that she had a "small" bowel movement sometime during the overnight shift.  IPC device appears to have been used overnight. Nurse Jackie arrived around 7:40 a.m. to check Joyce's pain levels and Joyce reported that she had some pain, mainly when moving about, but if she holds still then the pain levels in her back decrease. A lidocaine patch was applied to Joyce at some point after Dusty's departure the previous night and before his return this morning. Jackie stated she would get Joyce some pain medication and her morning pills. With the small bowel movement and hearing "good" noises from Joyce's stomach (using a stethoscope) the Gritman staff think that it was sufficient to warrant Joyce being approved for transfer to Good Samaritan later today. Dr. Brown has yet to arrive but Jackie confirmed that Dr. Brown has been informed about Joyce'...

General Update #37

10:57 a.m. - Joyce returned to room. Ali, surgical nurse, updated Jackie. New IV was started for Joyce as other was not useful. Confirmed that Joyce will need a follow up appointment scheduled for stint removal. Joyce indicated no pain. Blood sugar levels at 210. Anti-nausea medication was given to Joyce as she indicated that she was feeling nauseated in post-op. Joyce currently on 3 litres flow of oxygen, Ali informed Jackie it could be lowered back down to 2 litres later on. IPC Device setup and in use on her legs. 11 a.m. - Joyce indicated she "felt yucky" when Jackie asked how she was feeling. Jackie told Joyce that she is most likely feeling that way from the anesthesia. Joyce stated she was cold and Jackie said she would get more blankets brought in. Joyce asked what they did to her and Jackie recounted to Joyce that she had a kidney stone removed, explaining the procedure and that the stint was still in her and would be removed a week later by Dr. Keizur but it would n...

General Update # 32

5:47 p.m. - Nurse's aide arrived to take Joyce's blood sugar level. Reading was 168. Joyce asked if that was good or bad and nurse's aide said "That's pretty high." Joyce's blood oxygen levels at 94%. After nurse's aide departed, Joyce asked if she had ordered prune juice. Dusty stated she had not. Joyce said she had been dreaming about it. Dusty let Joyce know he would ask room service for some prune juice when they brought her the broth and half banana, or that he would ask nurse Becky to bring some if she arrived before the room service hostess did.  5:59 p.m. - Becky returned to check in on Joyce. Dusty relayed that Joyce wanted prune juice. Becky thought that was a good idea.  6:01 p.m. - Joyce asked Dusty to inform her on what is going to happen to her tomorrow. Dusty reviewed plan that Dr. Keizur laid out for tomorrow. Joyce pressed call button to go to the bathroom soon afterward. Bed pad and diapers were changed due to incontinence issue. Nurs...
