General Update # 113

Dusty called Maggie at Aspen Park (~1:36 p.m., 8/18/2020) with updated information about the 8/20 blood draw and 8/24 cancer doctor appointments for Joyce. Maggie will call Dr. Collins to see if the blood draw scheduled for 8/20 can be done in-house at Aspen Park by their phlebotomist to reduce Joyce's travel off-site.

Maggie requested information about Joyce's 8/20 and 8/24 appointments be faxed to their line at 208-882-1542, "Attn Maggie"

Dusty called Carol ~1:40 p.m. to follow up about cancer center appointment and options. Reviewed information and overall intersection of information and ongoing items related to Gritman/Aspen Park/Dr. Collins/cancer center and Joyce. Dusty to call cancer center to see if telehealth conference for 8/24 can be done instead of travel to Lewiston and if family can participate in Zoom call with Joyce and cancer doctor. Carol will send fax to Maggie about the 8/24 appointment with the cancer center.

Dusty called cancer center ~2:24 p.m., spoke with Tyler (receptionist) about potential for Joyce's appointment to be done via Zoom and if the recent blood drawn from Joyce at Moscow Medical last week would negate the need for the 8/20 blood draw to continue. 

Dusty provided general overview of Joyce's situation (fall in June, currently in care of Aspen Park who are coordinating her appointments). 

Tyler stated that the cancer center team doesn't do Zoom meetings but can do a work-around for a phone conference which would allow Joyce's family members to participate in the call. Michelle Dickison, who will be working with Joyce following departure of Dr. Morgan earlier in the year from the facility, is agreeable to telehealth visits unlike other medical staff at the facility. Tyler confirmed the appointment could be transitioned from in-person visit to telehealth. Someone from the cancer center receptionist team (Tyler or Jennifer) would call Joyce ahead of the 8/24 appointment using a designated phone number to use and "check her in," then Michelle and the cancer center nurse would call Joyce back for the appointment using that designated phone number. Tyler stated that while the family could not join the direct line, perhaps they could be added by seeing if the Aspen Park nurse who would participate in the telehealth call with Joyce on-site at the Aspen Park facility could call one of Joyce's family member's phones and put them on speaker for the call.

Dusty asked about the blood draw which was done at Moscow Medical for Joyce last week and if it having been done would mean that the 8/20 blood draw would not need to be done now. Tyler stated that the cancer center needs the CBC, CMP and CEA - if those were part of the blood drawn from last week, Dusty or Carol should have Dr. Collins' office fax over the results to the cancer center. If not, Joyce should still plan for the blood draw to be done on 8/20 at Gritman.

Tyler noted on Joyce's file that she is at the Aspen Park facility in Moscow (information previously listed Joyce at her home location). Dusty confirmed that he will obtain a designated phone number for the 8/24 appointment from the Aspen Park staff and/or have them contact the cancer center direct for follow up.

Dusty called Carol ~ 2:32 p.m. to update her on info gained from Cancer center. 

Dusty will call Aspen Park next to update them on option for telehealth (to avoid issues of scheduling Joyce's physical traveling to Lewiston) and to obtain designated phone number for the cancer center to use, and conference call coordination so family can participate with dialogue with Michelle Dickison.

Carol, Connie and Dusty will plan to coordinate a meet up for Joyce's 8/24 cancer center appointment and participate via speakerphone dial-in from one of their cell phones to an Aspen Park phone that will be present in the room with the speaker phone in use for Joyce's meeting with Michelle.

Dusty called Aspen Park ~2:38 p.m. to provide updated info from Cancer center in regard to the 8/20 and 8/24 appointments and confirm receipt of fax sent from Carol. No one reachable via phone. Called back, no response and placed on hold. Remained on hold before being transferred to Jennifer Trout's voicemail - left message for call back and that it was related to ongoing conversation with nurse Maggie.

Dusty called cancer center back at 3:06 p.m., spoke to Tyler. Tyler confirmed that she had coordinated the change of location for Joyce to the cancer center staff for the 8/24 appointment. Tyler stated that the cancer center's social worker team will coordinate with Aspen Park (and may be doing so right now) for the correct designated phone and connection info to use for the 8/24 appointment for Joyce. Aspen Park team will most likely follow up with Dusty about the 8/24 appointment.

Dusty asked if Joyce's medical records have been updated to include suspected spinal cancer concerns from Gritman medical ER staff and doctors, records from Gritman collected June 2020, etc. Tyler does not have that information access so Dusty was transferred to the cancer center's medical records office. 

Dusty spoke with Peggy who confirmed that they had not received information about potential spinal cancer to be explored being added on file for Joyce, nor received records for Joyce of medical info collected June 2020 to present.

Dusty worked with Peggy to list out summary of timeline and procedures/tests collected from ER visit in June with Dr. Ellen Marie Brown (X-rays sent on from gritman ER visit), etc. Asked about blood draw form 8/5 and 8/6, 8/13. Records were obtained for Joyce's file for the 8/5 and 8/6 from the Gritman system, but nothing for the 8/13 Moscow Medical appointment at this time. Peggy stated that a request had been submitted for Gritman information related to Joyce for June 2020 - present period. Confirmed Joyce's 8/20 blood draw, 8/21 CT scan, and 8/24 appointment with cancer center. Confirmed 8/21 CT data would be sent to cancer center ahead of 8/24 cancer center appointment. 

Dusty provided his contact information to Peggy at her request in case she has any questions. Peggy provided her direct line in case the family needs to contact her, 208-750-7394

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
