General Update #126

Rachael (Aspen Park social worker) emailed Dusty ~9:52 a.m. on 8/28 from a clinical meeting she was participating in where Joyce was being discussed. Clinically there is nothing wrong with Joyce - no cancer, no UTI - but the Aspen Park team still has concerns over sending Joyce home without 24/7 care. Rachael requests that Dusty come visit Joyce and talk with Joyce to see if he notices anything and to discuss options with Joyce and let Aspen Park know. From there, Rachael says, it can be determined whether Joyce stays at Aspen Park or returns home to the farmhouse. 

Dusty responded to the email that he would be glad to arrange a time to come visit with Joyce in person and review/discuss options with her as Rachael suggested, however, the consensus from Joyce and her family is that Joyce should be discharged to her home and the family would take on arrangements for her care. Dusty cited cost of keeping Joyce at Aspen Park as being a concern over her remaining on-site for 24/7 care. Dusty stated that he was still attempting to connect with Maggie and had not yet spoken with her about the upcoming telehealth appointment that was to be scheduled for Joyce with Dr. Collins following yesterday's cancer center telehealth appointment.

Dusty called Aspen Park, requesting to speak with Maggie ~11 a.m. He was connected to Jennifer who stated she would attempt to locate Maggie. Maggie was working with one of the other residents and was unavailable to connect. Jennifer confirmed Dusty's contact information and said that Maggie would reach out to him direct once she was available.

Maggie called Dusty ~11:43 a.m. 

She said that the Aspen Park team is concerned over Joyce's continued hallucinations and confusion.

Maggie reported that Joyce appeared to be doing fantastic today, back to baseline normal, and is very conversant so far from what she has observed during interactions. Maggie said that Dr. Collins should weigh in one more time about the results of the oncology and brain CT and Joyce and that the Aspen Park team will let Collins drive directions on care plan for Joyce.

Maggie confirmed that the telehealth appointment with Dr. Collins has been set for 11:40 a.m. September 4 and that she will assist with adding Carol, Connie and Dusty using a similar method as used yesterday to add them to the cancer center telehealth call. Maggie noted that Dr. Collins tends to run on time so there should not be as much of a delay in the conference call as what was experienced yesterday with the cancer center team.

Maggie encouraged that the family should try to schedule time to visit in person with Joyce so they can get some good interaction with her and obtain best insights as to her mental state and potential for what they will be interacting with when she returns to the farmhouse. 

Dusty confirmed that he would work on finding time for scheduling a live visit with Joyce next week.

Rachael responded to Dusty's email at 11:53 a.m., confirming that Maggie had finally connected with Dusty via phone earlier today. She added a confirmation that Joyce's last covered date for staying with Aspen Park would be 9/18 but at the pace things are manifesting she will be discharged to home before then. Restated their concerns for Joyce and desire to make things successful for her transition home and long term living. Rachael stated that she would be glad to help with finding an agency, if that is what Joyce's family wants to pursue, to provide 24/7 care for Joyce or help augment what the family is able to provide. She is standing by to help with any questions that might arise.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
