General Update #114

Dusty called Joyce (8/18/2020) around 5:10 p.m. on his walk home from work. They reviewed their days and what has been going on since they last spoke. Joyce was in high spirits and sounding like her old self. They discussed television shows Joyce had been watching while in her room, the therapy work she had been undertaking, walks done, and other pieces of past lived experiences from Joyce's life as they came to mind and how they link into where she is at now at Aspen Park.

The phone visit was cut short with the delivery of Joyce's dinner, an open-faced sloppy joe style sandwich with tater tots as a side.

Dusty called Joyce (8/18/2020) around 8:41 p.m. to check in and wish her a goodnight.

Joyce was extremely talkative and in good spirits. Joyce had been watching a newer episode of NCIS on the room's television set when Dusty called. They talked about the NCIS series, Joyce's dinner, her work with the therapists, and other items on through to its end and then Joyce gave a play by play of the cold opening for the next show that followed.

Later on in the conversation Joyce stated randomly that she feels like she is feeling suspicious. Dusty asked for clarification and Joyce explained that she was suspicious that she might not ever see her home or possessions again. Dusty spent time reassuring her that she would get home again to the farmhouse and that all is in order. Dusty reconfirmed that the family is working to care for Joyce and have her best interests at heart in all steps of planning for her care. They reviewed her June 2020 to present timeline, from accident to recent infections and mental health and Joyce became placated and happy once more.

Joyce and Dusty continued talking until Dusty had to end the conversation to deal with his dryers in the laundromat.

Jennifer at Aspen Park called Dusty ~11:57 a.m. (8/19/2020) to follow up on voicemail messages he left yesterday for her and Maggie regarding coordination of 8/20 blood draw and 8/24 cancer center appointments for Joyce.

Maggie currently in middle of assisting with care of another resident and so she is unable to participate in this call.

Jennifer did confirm that the Aug 24 appointment for Joyce will be a telephone appointment where the cancer center team will call an Aspen Park phone line and speak with Joyce and a nurse (will most likely be Maggie) via speaker phone. Dusty brought up cancer center's permission to allow coordination of second call (through a separate Aspen Park phone line) to occur simultaneously, where Aspen Park calls out to a phone number set by Dusty/Carol/Connie so they can participate in the conference call and ask questions regarding Joyce to the cancer center team through that second line's speaker phone to the call Joyce and the Aspen Park nurse would have going with the cancer center team. Jennifer uncertain about this as she didn't have that information but is open to exploring with the Aspen Park staff. Jennifer to follow up with Maggie for coordination. 

Maggie is currently looking into the 8/20 blood draw for Joyce to determine what the cancer center needs for their reports on Joyce. If they are already on blood draw data sets pulled earlier in the month by Aspen Park or on what Moscow Medical pulled last week, they will relay that onto the cancer center and cancel the 8/20 appointment as it would be unneeded. Dusty relayed what Tyler provided to him yesterday (CBC, CMP and CEA). Jennifer thanked him for those specifics and said she would relay them onto Maggie. 

Jennifer confirmed CT scan on Friday for Joyce.

Rachael Kimble and Maggie will work with family on discharge planning, that process most likely to resume sometime next week following updated information gained from CT scan and visit with cancer center team.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
