General Update #298 - Thursday, February 4, 2021

7:45 a.m. - Craig arrived to farmhouse. Joyce had apparently been up and turned on all of the lights in the kitchen. Joyce reported she had woken up and taken herself to the bathroom ~ 6 a.m.

7:50 a.m. - Bathroom trip. Returned from bathroom unaided ~8:03 a.m.

8:07 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse. Joyce reported that she had just returned to her recliner from using the bathroom and was getting settled. Oxygen line not in place.

8:10 a.m. - BP 153/77, pulse 75. BGL @ 136.

8:20 a.m. - Talked breakfast and not being interested in food. Joyce said that her lack of appetite recently was due to "just being tired." Joyce was asked if she had sores in her mouth again. Joyce said no. Joyce said that pancakes sounded good for breakfast today.

8:40 a.m. - Morning medication with nutritional shake.

8:45 a.m. - Breakfast (4 small pancakes and banana). Finished by 9:30 a.m.

9:35 a.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. New diaper and diaper pad insert. Remainder of urine passed. Barrier cream applied. Joyce returned to recliner by 9:45 a.m.

10:30 a.m. - Debra (Kindred nurse) arrived for weekly checkup on Joyce. Joyce reporting her pain levels to be about 6-7 on scale of 1-10. Joyce had to be coached on how to do deep breathing (she is still breathing shallowly). Body temperature at 99 degrees Fahrenheit - noted to be elevated but assuming this is due to blankets and room heater directed at Joyce. Oxygen levels at 94% - good. BP 130/73.

Debra recommends icing Joyce's left knee when Joyce reports severe pain. 

Debra confirmed it is acceptable to give Joyce up to 3 nutritional shakes per day, especially when Joyce's appetite is poor. Confirmed it is acceptable to give Joyce what she wants/craves for meals as it is most important that she is eating - if she will eat something reliably (hamburgers) then provide it to her so she eats vs. having her refuse to eat.

10:57 a.m. - Enrichment activity (coloring).

12:30 p.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse. Joyce awake in recliner, without oxygen line in place, coloring.

12:34 p.m. - BP 142/69, pulse 63. BGL @ 244.

Lunch declined, bathroom trip declined.

12:47 p.m. - Lunch (blueberry waffle with peanut butter, V8 juice, whole banana, Baby Bell cheese wheel). 2 Tylenol.

12:51 p.m. - Bathroom sanitized. Evidence Joyce had bowel movement at some point between 11 a.m. and present. At least one bathroom trip made by Joyce solo.

Lunch finished by 1:13 p.m.

2 p.m. - Bathroom trip refused. Dusty departed farmhouse to return to work, leaving Joyce napping/coloring (falling asleep while coloring). 

4:50 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Nothing passed. 

6 p.m. - Dinner (pot pie). Finished by 6:30 p.m. then watched movie.

7:24 p.m. - Changed Joyce into clean clothes. Evening medication. Had Joyce drink 2 glasses of water.

8:49 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Replaced diaper and diaper pad insert.

9 p.m. - Ready for bed.

Phone line at farm discovered to be inoperative. Jess and Craig worked with utility company and notified them it needed repair - higher priority flag attached to work order by utility company as phone line supports Lifeline emergency notification system for Joyce.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
