General Update #245 - Monday, December 14, 2020

~8:30 a.m. Carole (Kindred) called Dusty's cell phone and let him know she will be out to see Joyce today around 1 p.m.

8:45 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse to find Joyce awake with her oxygen line in place. Joyce had been in the laundry room at some point since Jess and Dusty left last night, pulling out fabric "to make pillow cases." Jess spoke with Joyce about going into laundry room unsupervised, the hazards of her moving around in the clutter in there with her walker and the dangers to her in lifting and moving heavy items without help. Joyce agreed with Jess.

8:54 a.m. - BP 143/86, pulse 80. BGL @ 121.

9:20 a.m. - Morning medication taken with nutritional shake.

9:25 a.m. - Breakfast (1 slice of toast with egg). Breakfast finished by 9:40 a.m.

10:15 a.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Joyce passed remaining urine and bowel movement (type 6). Wound cleaned and fresh barrier cream applied.

10:30 a.m. - Jess vacuumed kitchen carpeting to help settle Joyce's mind about condition of her home.

12:31 p.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse, finding Joyce awake in her recliner without her oxygen line in place. Lunch declined. Bathroom trip declined.

1:07 p.m. - Carole and Jamie (Kindred) arrived to farmhouse to check on Joyce.

Oxygen level at 95%, pulse 78, temperature 98.8 degrees Fahrenheit, BP 130/70.

Confirmed that Joyce's next appointment with Dr. Collins will be December 16. Joyce's health logbook was reviewed. Noted weight loss. Joyce did not self-report any headaches, neck pains, or dizziness. No pain self-reported by Joyce aside from her left knee. Joyce was not able to understand the 1-10 pain scale question - Carole put Joyce at a "2" after being unable to get a response from Joyce. Pressure wound on buttock checked - healing well. Leg swelling noted and recommendation for elevation of legs and compression stocking use reviewed. Confirmed 2 liter oxygen flow rate for Joyce throughout the day. Noted Joyce's lack of appetite. Confirmed ad-hoc use of Claritin for treating Joyce's dust allergies. Bladder/bowel incontinence logs reviewed. Leg (left) intermittent pain and functionality issues reviewed and will follow up with Dr. Collins during appointment.

2:08 p.m. - Joyce soiled herself in her recliner (type 6). Joyce cleaned up, passed remainder of bowel movement and urine. Joyce showered and changed into fresh clothing. Bathroom sanitized, soiled laundry started. Disposable chair pad replaced.

Weight @ 154.4 lbs.

PT walk to living room.

3:25 p.m. - Lunch declined. Peanut butter & honey sandwich left for Joyce on her walker in case Joyce gets hungry later. Dusty departing farmhouse to return to campus office ~3:30 p.m.

6:30 p.m. - Dinner (ham, cheese, mushroom, spinach, onion omelet). Evening medications administered.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
