General Update #258 - Sunday, December 27, 2020

Dusty and Jess arrived to farmhouse ~8:35 a.m., finding Joyce asleep in her recliner without her oxygen line in place. 

Evidence Joyce had taken herself to the bathroom at least twice since Dusty departed farmhouse last night. Joyce reported that she did not sleep well - she was "unable to fall asleep."

8:36 a.m. - Lancet cartridge replaced. BP 183/96, pulse 83. BGL @151.

8:39 a.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence, diaper pad replaced. Remainder of urine passed. Preparation H applied. PT walk to living room - Joyce had difficulty walking to/from bathroom, reporting pain in both legs. Returned to recliner by 8:50 a.m.

8:55 a.m. - Morning medication with nutritional shake.

9 a.m. - Breakfast (McDonald's hash brown and sausage biscuit).

Joyce began napping after breakfast. 

11:06 a.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Diaper pad replaced. Remainder of urine passed. Preparation H applied. PT walk to living room. Joyce's calves swollen, ankles fine. Joyce returned to recliner by ~11:16 a.m. and legs elevated.

Joyce setup to return to napping while Dusty and Jess travel to Moscow to purchase supplies for farmhouse ~ 11:30 a.m.

Dusty and Jess returned to farmhouse with supplies (diapers, disposable wipes, sanitization wipes, disposable gloves, fabric softener, hand soap refill, eggs, nutritional shakes, Preparation H gel, toilet tissue, facial tissues, bananas, mayonnaise, dinner supplies) ~1 p.m., found Joyce asleep without oxygen line in place. At some point during the intervening period, Joyce had returned herself to sitting upright in her recliner for sleeping from the prone position. Oxygen line restored to correct position and Joyce returned to napping.

1:35 p.m. - Joyce woke herself up from napping. Declined bathroom trip, citing fatigue. 

1:42 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release. Mess cleaned up. Shower refused. New diaper and diaper pad insert. PT walk to living room, Joyce reporting pain in both knees (more pain in the left knee). Returned to recliner by 1:55 p.m. 

2:10 p.m. - BP 120/70, pulse 71. BGL @ 133.

2:15 p.m. - Lunch (potato salad, turkey, dinner roll with butter). 2 Tylenol. Dinner finished by ~3:15 p.m. Didn't finish turkey (reported to be too tough to eat for her) and picked pickles out of the potato salad. Began napping.

3:53 p.m. - Joyce woke herself up from napping.

4 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Urine passed. Shoes sanitized. Joyce showered. Fresh clothes. 

4:33 p.m. - Joyce weighed - 161.2 lbs. 

PT walk to living room, moderate pain reported in walking back to recliner. 

5:16 p.m.  - Compression stockings put onto Joyce. Joyce managed to get one on by herself, required assistance with second stocking.

5:30 p.m. - Joyce began napping. 

6:41 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release. Mess cleaned up. Compression stockings removed, shoes sanitized. Remainder of urine passed along with minor bowel movement (type 5), constipation issues. New diaper and diaper pad insert. Preparation H applied. PT walk to living room, returned to recliner by 7:18 p.m.

7:47 p.m. - BP 142/78, pulse 70. BGL @ 113.

7:50 p.m. - Dinner (beer battered fish filets, potato salad, nutritional shake). Evening medication. 

Joyce began sleeping after finishing dinner ~8:25 p.m.

9:02 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

9:04 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release. Mess cleaned up. Remaining urine passed. New diaper and diaper pad insert. Preparation H applied. PT walk to living room - Joyce experienced difficulty in waking, left knee pain and right shin pain reported by Joyce. Returned to recliner by 9:15 p.m. and made ready for bed.

Joyce finished the remainder of her nutritional shake ~9:18 p.m.

Dusty and Jess departing farmhouse ~9:25 p.m., returning tomorrow morning to provide elder care for Joyce.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
