General Update #190 - Monday, October 19, 2020

October 18, 2020 Addendum

Dusty provided update on Joyce's day and where everything was at in process (laundry, dishes, recliner drying, etc.) to Connie who arrived ~1:08 p.m. to farmhouse. Dusty purchased tarp and bungee cords from town and returned to farmhouse after working on Palouse Anthropology projects in the afternoon to place them over the powered recliner so that Joyce could use it overnight.

Dusty returned to farmhouse after conclusion of evening meetings to drop off tarp and bungee cords for covering Joyce's powered recliner for Connie. Connie had traveled into Moscow already and purchased a brace of waterproof crib covers and put them into place. Dusty stored tarp and bungee cords into laundry room storage area in event they are needed in the future. Connie reported that Joyce had only slept for ~10 minutes since Dusty left to work at Theatre Archives. 

Connie, Jess and Dusty visited a while with Joyce. Jess discovered Joyce had been hiding a salt shaker and Advil bottle on her chairside shelving and been using it. Joyce became angry with Jess when Jess took them away as Joyce was trying to hide them behind her crayon boxes. Jess spent time explaining to Joyce why they had to track what she was ingesting (dangers of adding too much salt to a low sodium diet, taking pain medications and not telling family caregivers she was taking them, etc.). Jess and Dusty departed ~8:40 p.m. after visiting with Connie in farmhouse driveway.

October 19, 2020

Dusty arrived ~8:15 a.m. to farmhouse, simultaneously with Craig who informed him he just arrived. Joyce found upright and awake in the ad-hoc chair Connie had assembled for Joyce to use last night while her powered recliner was still drying (before she went out to purchase the waterproof covers). Joyce had disassembled the coverings on her recliner that Connie had arranged, citing that the recliner was wet and still needed to dry out. Joyce emphasized "the chair is wet, but not from me!" Joyce informed Craig and Dusty that she had taken herself to the bathroom but could not recall when.

8:17 a.m. - Vitals taken. BP 168/86, pulse 82. BGL @ 126. Joyce declined bathroom trip. 

8:35 a.m. - Bathroom trip. Joyce released her bladder while moving to seat herself onto toilet riser. Urine and Type 5 bowel movement passed. Dusty assisted Joyce with cleanup and changing into new diaper and diaper pad. Bathroom floor and toilet riser sanitized. Joyce returned to her chair ~8:40 a.m.

9:04 a.m. - Breakfast (Nutritional shake, leftover 1/4 Rosauers cinnamon roll, 1/2 banana, 1 hard boiled egg with Mrs. Dash seasoning). Morning medication (Carvedilol, Metformin, 2 Tylenol, multivitamin, iron, potassium). 

10:05 a.m. - Joyce finished breakfast while Dusty was on a video call with his director in the other room and fell asleep without her oxygen line in place. Dusty assisted Joyce to get her oxygen line in place and performing breathing exercises to restore alertness. Joyce requested Highway to Heaven series be setup for her to watch on Netflix.

10:19 a.m. - Dusty chased off the woodpecker again.

10:22 a.m. - Joyce commented to Dusty that the episode of Highway to Heaven she was watching ("A Devine Madness") was very much like her situation, where people thought she was crazy. Dusty commented that she was not calling herself King Arthur, though, and no one thought she was crazy. Joyce paused then grinned, "Well, I could get a crown!" 

10:30 a.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip, citing fatigue. Napped.

11 a.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip, citing fatigue. Dusty attempted to work on breathing exercises with Joyce to perk her up but she kept falling asleep through the exercises. Joyce resumed napping.

11:30 a.m. - Joyce woke on her own but declined bathroom trip. Did some breathing exercises and small amount of lower leg PT work with Dusty before asking to be left to nap again. Joyce resumed napping.

Noon - Joyce woke by Dusty for bathroom trip but declined. Joyce declined lunch also. Dusty worked on breathing exercises. Joyce resumed napping.

12:30 p.m. - Vitals taken. BP 147/78, pulse 81. BGL @ 122. 

12:40 p.m. - Derik arrived to use farmhouse bathroom and departed.

1 p.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip, citing fatigue. Resumed napping.

1:30 p.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip and slept until 2 p.m., then worked on waking herself up. 

~2 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Minor urinary incontinence. Joyce released her bladder as she sat onto toilet riser. Diaper and diaper pad insert replaced. Toilet riser and bathroom floor sanitized. PT walk to living room, into kitchen, and back to blue chair by ~2:25 p.m. 

2:30 p.m. - Lunch (leftover Wendy's hamburger). 2 Tylenol for pain relief.

Connie arrived ~4:20 p.m. to provide evening care for Joyce. 

4:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. PT walk to living room, kitchen and back to blue chair by ~4:44 p.m.

Dusty departing farmhouse ~5 p.m. and will return tomorrow morning ~8 a.m.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
