General Update #193 - October 22, 2020

Dusty arrived at farmhouse ~7:50 a.m., finding Joyce sitting upright in her recliner without oxygen line in place. Joyce declined bathroom trip - Joyce stated that she had already taken herself to the bathroom but could not recall how long ago. Dusty asked Joyce about how she wanted to Candice grapes processed (made into raisins or jelly) and Joyce said she "would have to think about that." Joyce asked Dusty to contact Frank and see if he would like some of the Candice grapes for himself first before she made a decision about what to do with them. Joyce refused breakfast. Dusty eventually negotiated she have a slice of toast and half of a banana.

8 a.m. - Nutritional shake and morning medication (Carvedilol, metformin, 2 Tylenol, potassium, iron, multivitamin) given to Joyce.

Craig arrived ~8:05 a.m. to read newspaper and visit. Informed Dusty that they had KFC bowls last night for dinner and Joyce had asked her leftovers be saved so she could eat them for lunch today.

8:15 a.m. - Vitals taken. BP 152/83, pulse 81.

8:16 a.m. Scam phone call to farmhouse landline intercepted by Dusty. BGL @ 130.

8:19 a.m. - Breakfast (1 slice whole wheat toast, 1/2 banana). 

8:33 a.m. - Robocall to farmhouse landline intercepted by Dusty. Dusty setup farmhouse landline onto national "Do Not Call" list and ordered call blocking device to install into farm's landline phone system.

Breakfast finished ~8:55 a.m. 

9 a.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Passed urine and small bowel movement. Joyce reported that her arms were hurting while using her walker.

9:05 a.m. - Scam phone call to farmhouse landline.

9:17 a.m. - After toileting, Joyce returned to recliner after PT walk to living room. 

9:29 a.m. - Joyce started laughing suddenly and Dusty asked what was so funny. It was the scene in Back to the Future Part III where the Buford Tannen character was punched unconscious by Marty McFly and crashed face first into the manure cart. Joyce stated that she always liked that part in the trilogy, "he gets what he deserves!" Joyce also asked if he didn't get manure dumped on him in the other two movies and Dusty confirmed that the Tannen character did. Joyce requested to look through today's newspaper.

10 a.m. - Joyce soiled herself in her recliner. Dusty cleaned her up out in the living room. Joyce walked to bathroom under her own power, complained about her body not working like it should. Joyce released her bladder early as she moved to sit on toilet riser. Joyce put into shower after passing remaining amount of Type 6 bowel movement and remaining urine. Dusty sanitized hallway floor, bathroom floor, toilet riser and sink. Derik arrived to use bathroom while Dusty was bathing Joyce in the shower, Derik departed. 

Joyce returned to her recliner ~11 a.m., declined to stop and do PT or OT work. Weight 159 lbs. 

~1 p.m. Joyce woke from napping and became concerned about the clouds of exhaust passing by her kitchen windows. Dusty informed her that Craig had the wheeled Allis-Chalmers tractor idling as he worked to take off the second set of wheels - the purchaser contacted Craig and stated he was going to be arriving to pick it up today for his collection. Joyce asked if the exhaust was going to start filling the house and Dusty stated that so far it had been enshrouding the house for almost an hour and hadn't filled the house yet. Joyce declined bathroom trip. Joyce declined offer of lunch. 

1:30 p.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip. Joyce declined lunch.

1:56 p.m. - Scam phone call to farmhouse land line intercepted by Dusty.

2 p.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip. Joyce declined lunch. 

2:12 p.m. - Scam phone call to farmhouse land line intercepted by Dusty. Someone claiming to be from BAS Insurance.

2:15 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Joyce was dry until she moved to sit on toilet riser and released her bladder early. Dusty cleaned up Joyce, toilet seat riser, and floor. Bathroom floor, toilet riser, and sink sanitized after Joyce completed toileting. Joyce took PT walk to living room and then out into kitchen to see Craig's tractor loaded up onto the trailer and watch Craig move the extra wheels using the forklift before returning to her chair ~2:36 p.m. 

3:02 p.m. - Robocall to farmhouse land line. 

3:05 p.m. - Snack (1/2) banana. 2 Tylenol for pain relief. Joyce ate a small bite from one fiber cracker and then napped. 

3:45 p.m. - Craig arrived to visit with Joyce. Discussed winter storm warning for tomorrow (5"-7" of snow predicted between Friday and Saturday) and the delivery truck driver's background and that he might be from the same parts of Minnesota as Carol's family. Craig teased Joyce about removing the trees in front of her house. Craig attempted to get Joyce to eat her snack that she was refusing to eat. Craig suggested Joyce try eating the KFC bowl. Dusty reheated the KFC bowl for Joyce and gave it to her ~4:04 p.m. Craig departed farmhouse ~4:07 p.m.

Connie arrived to farmhouse ~4:30 p.m. Joyce told Connie that she had found Linda's phone number and will call her to see if Frank wants any of the Candice grapes that Dusty and Craig brought in yesterday.

Dusty departing farmhouse ~5 p.m., returning tomorrow ~8 a.m.

Joyce continued to remove her oxygen line throughout the day.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
