General Update #130
Dusty called Joyce to check in with her during his walk home from campus on 9/9 ~6:14 p.m.
Joyce was in a good mood, having just finished her dinner (macaroni & cheese, green beans, and a chocolate cupcake for dessert). An orderly arrived to clear away her trays from the day.
Dusty asked Joyce if she had been reading her Redwall book and she stated that she had not been, not certain where it even was at the time of the call. Dusty suggested that she or a therapist might've put it in one of her drawers in the room and Joyce thought that might be the case after some consideration.
Joyce informed Dusty that she'd been told she would be going home soon. Joyce expressed that she was excited to be going home. When asked what she wanted to do first once she was back out at the farmhouse, Joyce stated that she "just wanted to sit a while in her chair and take it all in and be thankful she got to make it home." She confirmed this was the longest time she's ever been away from the farmhouse.
Joyce stated that the nurses expressed they would be sorry to see her go and asked Dusty why that might be. Dusty suggested that its because they are fond of her, she is pleasant and kind to them, and most likely it was similar to Joyce's time in Gritman - that she treated them like people and didn't take out her frustrations or angst on them like some residents/patients might do who might've been abandoned by their family members. Joyce expressed lament that people have to be rude or mean to others who only want to help them and that she has been very thankful for the care she has received at Aspen Park.
Joyce inquired about Dusty and Jess' work day and what was done over the Labor Day weekend, which Dusty reviewed with her. Joyce stated that being in a location where she had no ready access to her calendars made her feel like she was in a timeless world. She was looking forward to having access to calendars again. And hugs. Joyce stated that she would need to get hugs from everyone she could once she was back at the farm.
Joyce ended the phone call, citing a desire to change the channel off of the program that came on and to see if there was a new episode of NCIS or something more interesting on to watch than what was currently playing on the Create channel.

Dusty was unable to call Joyce at a decent hour to wish her a goodnight on the evening of 9/9 due to schedule conflict.
