General Update #169

Dusty arrived to farmhouse ~8:35 a.m. after traveling to several stores in Moscow while attempting to locate appropriate carpet cleaning solution for his spot cleaner machine for use on Joyce's carpet. Found Joyce sitting hunched over her legs in her recliner with oxygen off. 

Bathroom trip for Joyce at ~8:40 a.m. without incident. Joyce reported that she believed she had already gone to the bathroom by herself sometime around 6 a.m. Joyce passed urine. Dusty assisted in cleaning out Joyce's wounds of fecal matter from some previous bowel movement and applied fresh barrier cream to afflicted areas.

~8:54 a.m. Dusty noticed missed phone call to his cell phone from Craig. Craig had attempted to call Dusty ~8:05 a.m. to let him know that he and Carol had already taken Joyce to bathroom before 8 a.m. this morning when Carol brought Craig to the farmhouse.

Joyce taken for PT walk to family room, into kitchen and back to her recliner post-toileting. Joyce requested boiled eggs for breakfast.

Joyce's blood glucose level @ 114, ~9:05 a.m. 

Breakfast at 9:15 a.m. - 1 slice of toast with butter and 1/3 of banana, and Earl Grey tea given to Joyce to help with digesting medications while Dusty worked on getting eggs boiled. Morning medications administered successfully (Carvedilol, Metformin, Multivitamin, Potassium, Iron, Multivitamin, 2 Tylenol). Joyce napped afterward.

10:50 a.m. - Epsom salt foot soak setup. Blood pressure 165/90, pulse 78. Lidocaine patch applied to Joyce's back. Dentures cleaned. 

12:15 p.m. - Joyce traveled to bathroom. Urine and Type 6 bowel movement passed. Cleaned wound and applied fresh barrier cream. Weight @ 161.8 lbs. Joyce reported severe pain in her left knee which made it impossible for her to move under her own power. After several attempts to assist Joyce in moving with use of the walker on her own, Dusty managed to get Joyce seated onto her walker and wheeled her out to her recliner. Joyce remained in her walker for ~10 minutes before Dusty was able to assist her move onto the recliner ~12:46 p.m.

12:55 p.m. - Lunch (1 slice toast with butter, 1 hard boiled egg sliced in half, 3.5 slices of canned peaches). 2 Tylenol provided for pain relief.  Lunch finished ~1:20 p.m. Joyce proceeded to nap while Dusty cleaned the carpet area in front of her recliner, project concluded ~2 p.m.

3:34 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Joyce able to use her left leg again. Replaced diaper pad insert due to urinary incontinence. Cleaned wounds and applied fresh barrier cream. Joyce able to return to her recliner under her own power. Derik arrived shortly afterward, sitting to watch ending of The Ghostbusters and visit with Joyce.

Connie arrived ~4:15 p.m. to provide evening care for Joyce. Dusty departing farmhouse ~4:30 p.m., returning tomorrow ~ 8 a.m. Bringing tools from his apartment to hang new smoke detectors and fire extinguisher which Carol purchased.

Jay (Kindred PT assistant) called Dusty's cell ~5:04 p.m. to confirm his arrival tomorrow (9/25) to the farmhouse. He will plan to arrive between 2:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. to work with Joyce.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
