General Update #264 - Saturday, January 2, 2021

Dusty arrived to farmhouse ~8:40 a.m., found Joyce awake in her recliner without oxygen line in place.

8:50 a.m. - BP 151/78, pulse 68. BGL @ 116.

9:14 a.m. - Breakfast (6 small cinnamon vanilla pancakes with banana slices and syrup, 1/2 banana, nutritional shake). Morning medication. Breakfast finished by 9:38 a.m.

9:40 a.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

10 a.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

10:30 a.m. - Bathroom trip declined. 

11 a.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

11:30 a.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

11:39 a.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release in recliner and in seating herself onto toilet, mess cleaned up - incorrect diaper pad inserts utilized previously which led to failure of diaper sealing correctly. Correct diaper pad inserts restocked to bathroom and incorrect ones removed. Remainder of urine passed. Shoes sanitized. Joyce showered and changed into fresh clothes. Joyce reported difficulty in standing/walking throughout toileting and cleaning process. 

Weight 162 lbs.

PT walk to living room with extreme difficulty, pain in both knees reported by Joyce. Returned to recliner by 12:34 p.m.

Bathroom sanitized. 

Garbage cans emptied, trash taken out of farmhouse. Dishwasher emptied. Soiled laundry processed. 

Joyce began napping. 

1 p.m. - Lunch declined. Resumed napping.

1:30 p.m. - Lunch declined.

1:45 p.m. - Lunch (bologna sandwich with mayonnaise and mustard, sliced peaches, V8 juice). 2 Tylenol. Lunch finished by 2:15 p.m.

Joyce began napping.

2:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Napping resumed. 

3 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Napping resumed. 

3:28 p.m. - Joyce woke from her nap and asked Dusty what he was doing at the university. She did not remember he had dropped out of his PhD program or what he did for his day job at the university.

3:29 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Remainder of urine passed. Diaper pad insert replaced. Preparation H applied. 

PT walk to living room with difficulty. Joyce lamented not having the Christmas village setup this year at the farmhouse. Joyce commented that she will need to get stronger. Joyce returned to recliner by 3:40 p.m.

3:42 p.m. - BP 177/91, pulse 72. BGL @ 143. 

Joyce requested and received small glass of eggnog at 3:46 p.m. 

4:56 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Remainder of urine passed. Diaper pad insert replaced. Preparation H applied.

PT walk to living room with difficulty in walking. Joyce focused on the fact that not all of the Christmas decorations had been put up this year again. Joyce also commented that the grandfather clock that she received from H&R Block for her years of service should go to Dusty "because you were at the office right alongside me." Dusty informed Joyce that she would be hanging onto it for many years to come. Dusty confirmed he would work on getting the clock assembled once he can locate all its component parts so she can enjoy it running. Joyce returned to recliner by 5:08 p.m.

Joyce received two letters in the mail (Forrest French & family; Jehovah's Witnesses). Joyce spent a lot of time commenting to Dusty how they (Jehovah's Witnesses) identified themselves as "family" in the letter which she did not understand, believing they were identifying themselves as actual family and needed her and Dusty spent time explaining that even though the letter was hand written and personalized, it was clearly a randomly sent "cold call" recruitment letter for their religious faith and not them saying they were family members even though they alluded to being "family" in the most abstract method possible. 

6:24 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Remainder of urine passed. New diaper pad insert. Constipation, Joyce had difficulty in passing Type 1 bowel movement - Joyce continued passing Type 1 bowel movement when she stood up from toilet. Joyce re-seated onto toilet and Dusty assisted Joyce in cleaning up mess. Joyce requested to remain seated on toilet for a while longer. Dusty continued to check back on Joyce. Joyce attempted to discreetly clean herself without calling for assistance between his checks on her (most likely worried Dusty would put her into the shower), making a mess in this process - diaper and diaper pad insert required replacement. Dusty cleaned floor again of fecal matter and re-sanitized floor. Joyce declined Preparation H application due to her hustling to get out of the bathroom.

PT walk into kitchen to look out main window, then back into living room before returning to recliner ~7 p.m. Joyce commented that she likes having the basement stairway doors covered with the plywood and discussed her memories of laying with her face on the concrete in the basement after her fall last June.

~7:25 p.m. - Dinner (Campbell's broccoli cheese soup, 1 slice whole wheat toast with butter). Evening medication. Dinner finished ~8:05 p.m.

8:12 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release - diaper and diaper pad insert replaced. Mess cleaned up - toilet seat riser, floor and sink sanitized. Remainder of urine passed. Preparation H applied.

PT walk to living room, returning to recliner by 8:26 p.m. 

9:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Continuation of constipation, small type 1 bowel movement passed with difficulty. Preparation H applied. 

PT walk to living room. Joyce paused to stand and discuss in the living room the night she attempted to sleep in her own bed before she returned to recliner by 9:52 p.m. Joyce expressed that she did not sleep well when she tried to sleep in her bed that one night, citing that she found it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep. Dusty asked if she was considering sleeping in her room again and Joyce indicated that she did not think she would try again anytime soon.

Dusty departing farmhouse ~10:10 p.m., returning tomorrow to provide all-day care.

Joyce care calendar updated with February shifts and medical appointments.

A note was left in the physical log book by unidentified family care provider requesting that Joyce's cell phone be located and given to her so she can use it to call for help if she becomes stranded in the hallway while traveling to/from bathroom. Family care providers were notified that Joyce's old cellphone was obsolete (currently inoperative due to 5G network upgrade no longer supporting her old model of phone) and needed to be upgraded. Dusty is handling this as Joyce's cell phone is tied to his cell phone account - will be taken care of when Dusty is paid on January 8.
