General Update #270 - Thursday, January 7, 2021 (Updated x3)

8:30 a.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse to provide morning care for Joyce (Jess down with a severe migraine). Joyce found awake in her recliner laid back in a prone position, no blankets on, oxygen line not in place. Joyce semi-responsive to verbal interrogatives, delayed responses and long processing times.

8:35 a.m. - BP 159/77, pulse 71. BGL @ 131.

8:38 a.m. - Morning medication administered with nutritional shake.

8:50 a.m. - Pill cups refilled for remainder of today and tomorrow. Nabumetone prescription refill order placed with Wal-Mart pharmacy. Dusty will pick up on Saturday when it is ready.

8:58 a.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Does not appear that Joyce got up at all during the night - heavy urine saturation in diaper, diaper pad insert, skirt, and disposable chair pad. Diaper and diaper pad insert replaced. 

Joyce could not stand under her own power but was able to walk into bathroom very slowly (and unstable). 

Garbage bags emptied. Disposable chair mat replaced on recliner. Laundry started. 

9:06 a.m. - Urine sample collected by Dusty. 

Remainder of urine passed. Bowel movement (Type 4/5) passed by Joyce. Joyce able to stand up from toilet under her own power. Dusty assisted Joyce with cleanup. Joyce unable to return to kitchen under her own power. Dusty seated Joyce onto her walker and wheeled her back to kitchen, returning her to recliner by 9:30 a.m. 

Oxygen cannula replaced.

9:40 a.m. - Breakfast (2 slices whole wheat toast with butter, 1/2 banana, 1/2 can sliced peaches).

Dusty noticed that Joyce decided to start looking at her coloring books and paper calendar from her book shelf simultaneously at some point ~9:50 a.m., laying items over her food tray. Dusty cleaned up mess and returned Joyce to eating. Joyce slightly confused - tried to tell Dusty that the coloring book and the pencils were on her tray that was brought to her by "the nurse" this morning. Dusty got Joyce refocused on eating her breakfast. Joyce kept falling asleep while eating breakfast. Breakfast finished by 10:50 a.m.

Joyce stretched out in recliner with oxygen line in place to nap.

Dusty traveling into Moscow ~11 a.m. to drop off urine sample to Gritman laboratory, run errands for work, and pickup lunch and supplies for farmhouse.

Dusty returned to farmhouse around noon. Joyce still sleeping in recliner as Dusty left her.

Joyce woke from napping ~1:05 p.m., declined bathroom trip. Requested today's newspaper to look through. Joyce did not appear to comprehend any text, looked at pictures and comics.

1:10 p.m. - Connie arrived to pick up Joyce's medical insurance card and debit card to provide to NW Respiratory to finalize wheel chair processing. Connie will pick up the wheelchair from NW Respiratory tomorrow when it is ready to pick up. Connie departed to return to Moscow ~1:14 p.m.

Connie arriving this evening to provide care for Joyce.

1:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Lunch declined.

2 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined, lunch declined.

2:15 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined, lunch declined.

Dusty departing farmhouse ~2:30 p.m. to prepare for a meeting and work at his office on campus.

5:30 p.m. - Joyce finished going to bathroom following urinary incontinence (diaper soaked), had not gone to bathroom since 8:58 a.m.

6 p.m. - Dinner (macaroni & cheese, 1 small roll).

7 p.m. - Evening medication.

8 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence, diaper pad soaked. 2 diaper pad inserts put into diaper for evening.

8:30 p.m. - Changed Joyce's shirts, changed Joyce's blankets. Joyce made ready for bed.

Dusty and Jess off tomorrow to take Jess to Spokane Valley for migraine treatment. Craig, Courtney, and Carol providing care tomorrow for Joyce.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
