General Update #272 - Saturday, January 9, 2021

Dusty arrived to farmhouse ~9:10 a.m. after treating Jess' migraine and picking up supplies for farmhouse. Craig already on-site and assisted with carrying in items. Craig reported that Joyce had already taken herself to the bathroom when he arrive to farmhouse and as she was awake he took her blood pressure levels and provided her morning medication for today.

8:52 a.m. - BP 138/70, pulse 84.

9:30 a.m. - Breakfast (1 slice whole wheat toast with butter, 1 cup Earl Grey tea, 1/2 banana, omelet with ham, onion, cheese, peppers). Joyce ate very slowly. Joyce began falling asleep while eating breakfast. Joyce began complaining that there was too much food in front of her. Joyce abandoned eating breakfast ~10:10 a.m., ate only 1/2 slice of toast and 1/4 of omelet.

Joyce began going through her purse as Dusty put away her breakfast leftovers, finishing emptying and repacking it by 10:55 a.m. Began napping.

Noon - Bathroom trip and lunch refused. Napping resumed.

1 p.m. - Bathroom trip and lunch refused. Napping resumed.

1:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip and lunch refused. Napping resumed.

2 p.m. - Bathroom trip refused. Snack refused.

2:24 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Joyce unable to rise up from recliner on her own, Dusty assisted using recliner's power lift feature. Joyce insisted that she wanted to walk to bathroom under her own power - extremely slow progress. Urinary incontinence, Joyce leaked with each step taken to bathroom. Recliner's disposable pad replaced, carpet in kitchen cleaned. Hallway and bathroom floor sanitized. Joyce showered after extreme resistance. Joyce did not know who Dusty was through the process but fell into established showering directions and pattern, change into fresh clothing. Joyce confused through most of process, struggled to comprehend directions on leaving shower. Joyce insisted on returning to kitchen under her own power. Joyce returned to her recliner under her own power (very slowly) by 3:30 p.m. Dusty negotiated a snack as it was now too late for lunch and too early for dinner and Joyce declined eating anything at all. Bathroom re-sanitized.

3:34 p.m. - Snack (1/2 banana). Joyce ate very slowly, finishing by 4:10 p.m. Joyce moved to prone position in recliner and began napping. 

4:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

5 p.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip, resumed napping. 

5:08 p.m. - Craig arrived to visit and create a replacement for lost sharpie cap. Joyce woke from napping.

5:18 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined, stated she wanted to wait until Dusty returned from travel into Moscow.

~5:25 p.m. - Dusty departed to Moscow to pickup prescription and supplies for farmhouse. Trash taken out.

Dusty returned to farmhouse by 7 p.m., Joyce asleep in her recliner where she was left, sleeping. Joyce not entirely coherent when roused. Refused dinner, refused bathroom trip. Sleeping resumed.

7:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip refused. Dinner refused. Dusty attempted to give Joyce medication but could not get her to focus enough to take it. Joyce kept falling asleep while holding pills and almost dropping nutritional shake. Sleeping resumed.

8 p.m. - Joyce declined bathroom trip. Dinner declined. Joyce fell back asleep.

8:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Dinner declined. Joyce fell back asleep.

9 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Dinner declined. Joyce fell back asleep.

9:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Joyce fell back asleep.

10 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Joyce fell back asleep.

10:30 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined. Joyce fell back asleep.

11 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined.

Dusty attempted to shut down kitchen and depart farmhouse ~11:15 p.m., Joyce suddenly became aware that Dusty was leaving and became concerned about getting into the bathroom before he departed for the night.

11:23 p.m. - Bathroom trip after Joyce woke herself up enough to go to bathroom. Joyce had slight panic attack at not knowing how to operated recliner and return herself to upright position, Dusty walked her through it. Joyce unable to comprehend directions, Dusty had to operate powered recliner for her. Joyce able to walk to bathroom and back under her own power. Urinary incontinence, diaper and diaper pad insert held all fluids without leaks. Early bladder release upon moving to seat herself onto toilet seat. Remainder of urine passed. Dusty assisted in cleaning up Joyce, assisted in getting new diaper and diaper pad insert onto Joyce and applied hemorrhoid cream. Bathroom floor, toilet seat riser, and sink sanitized. Joyce returned to her recliner ~11:40 p.m.

11:45 p.m. - BP 143/79, pulse 75. BGL @ 145.

11:50 p.m. - Dusty finally got Joyce to take her medication with nutritional shake. Left a 1/2 banana on her bookshelf next to her recliner in case she becomes hungry in the middle of the night.

Midnight - Joyce thought she should eat her 1/2 banana and cheese and did so, requesting Dusty remain until she is finished in case she wants more food or drink.

12:20 p.m. - Joyce requested more food, stating she was starving. Dusty reheated leftover tuna noodle casserole for her and gave her another 1/2 banana. Eating finished by 1:08 a.m.

~1:15 a.m. Dusty departing farmhouse after getting Joyce settled for the remainder of the night. Dusty will be returning tomorrow ~9 a.m. to provide all day care for Joyce.

Joyce had difficulty in comprehending verbal interrogatives or processing simple conversation. Joyce did not know who Dusty was throughout the day until final bathroom trip after 11 p.m. - she knew who Dusty was and could say his name unprompted but did not know how to navigate her house, having to ask how to get back out to the kitchen as she "was disoriented." 

Joyce extremely lethargic throughout the afternoon and evening hours. Difficult to wake, difficult to hold focus. Joyce cited extreme fatigue and her confusion prevented getting her upright to travel to bathroom throughout evening hours. Dusty was unable to physically get her out of the recliner and would not have been able to get her to get to bathroom with help as Joyce was extremely limp and unable to move under her own power.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
