General Update #286 - Saturday, January 23, 2021
8:25 a.m. - Craig logged in Joyce's health log book that Joyce had just returned to her recliner from a solo successful bathroom trip.
9 a.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse, finding Joyce napping in her recliner without her oxygen line in place. Evidence found that Joyce had taken herself to the bathroom, had issue with early bladder release. Dusty cleaned floor and toilet riser. Found Craig's 8:25 a.m. note in log book.
BP 168/77, pulse 71. BGL @ 140.
9:11 a.m. - Breakfast (donut from Rosauers, 1/2 can peaches, nutritional shake, Baby Bell cheese wheel). Morning medication administered. Breakfast finished by 10:12 a.m.
10:17 a.m. - Joyce stated to Dusty that she wanted to stretch out to nap when he asked her what she would like to do next for herself. Dusty setup Joyce to nap. Joyce remained stretched out in her recliner for only 1-2 minutes before she used her remote to raise herself up into sitting position and declared that she did not want to sleep but that she wanted a project to work on and "not be lazy today."
10:20 a.m. - Enrichment activity (folding laundry x 2 baskets). Joyce napped intermittently between folding items from baskets.
Noon - Carol arrived to farmhouse to visit Joyce.
12:10 p.m. - Laundry folding project concluded, Joyce requested additional projects. Dusty provided her sweatshirts from her closet to sort through for donation.
12:30 p.m. - Lunch (butternut squash ravioli, glass cranberry juice). Tramdol and 2 Tylenol. Joyce kept falling asleep while eating and it was very difficult to keep her awake.
1:17 p.m. - Joyce became very concerned about her oxygen line "being stuck," grasping it then coiling and bundling it with both hands, then waving it around in the air beside and in front of her. Dusty checked the line and confirmed it was not tangled, knotted, or pinned under anything. Dusty confirmed oxygen flow was not obstructed. Joyce became frustrated as Dusty attempted to troubleshoot and returned to eating at his prompting. Lunch finished by 1:40 p.m. with extreme irritation.
Joyce began sleeping heavy, refusing to rise to travel to bathroom. Would not focus on waking up.
2:10 p.m. - Joyce woke herself up from napping stating she finally felt like going to bathroom. Discussed desire not to be showered, attempted to state she was too fatigued for it. Usual irritation expressed toward Dusty during discussion of hygiene and need for it. Joyce pointed out that other caregivers don't make her shower. Dusty confirmed they don't make her shower. Joyce stated that it was not her fault she was not showering regularly. Dusty had to explain that Joyce does not follow his limited time on lunch hours and so daily showering is not possible for her which is why it is important to do it today. Joyce became more receptive by end of conversation, confirming she understood she would be showered after toileting. Joyce stated she needed more time "to wake up" for showering.
2:19 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Large expulsion of flatus upon standing up from recliner. Urinary incontinence. Joyce was showered after she attempted to make verbal decline - was asking for explanations from Dusty as to why she needed to be showered.
Zac, Nichole and their baby M.J. arrived to visit while Joyce was being showered.
Weight 158lbs.
Joyce returned to recliner by 3:10 p.m. to visit with Zac and his family.
Bathroom sanitized. Kitchen counters cleaned.
Zac reported his baby was now 19 lbs. Joyce was asked if she has watched anything new on Netflix or if it was the same old programs (NCIS, Star Trek: The Next Generation, etc.). Joyce couldn't answer. Dusty shared that she had watched her way through Heartland. Joyce had difficulty remembering sex of baby throughout conversation with Zac and Nicole. Joyce asked about the baby's name and was told it was M.J. - Joyce then stated that it must be named after her. Nichole joked that they refer to M.J. as "baby" most of the time.
Zac, Nichole, and M.J. departed ~3:50 p.m.
Craig stopped in to visit and departed soon after checking the weekend's newspaper.
4 p.m. - Enrichment activity (sorting out clothing from closet for donation). Napped off and on through duration.
5:45 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Diaper and diaper pad replaced. Remainder of urine passed.
6:07 p.m. - Dinner (cannelloni, diced pear cup, Baby Bell cheese wheel, cranberry juice). Evening medication. Joyce kept falling asleep while eating. Joyce refused to let Dusty take her tray away from her, insisting that she would eat everything. Dinner abandoned ~9:20 p.m., all except 1/4 of cannelloni eaten.
9:33 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Hemorrhoidal cream applied. Toilet seat riser sanitized. Returned to recliner ~9:44 p.m. under her own power.
Dusty departing farmhouse ~9:50 p.m., returning tomorrow to provide all-day care.
---
Joyce had no difficulties walking today but did have some issues with balance while attempting to pull her diaper on/off for toileting process, often setting down too hard or fast onto toilet riser.
Joyce's hemorrhoids appear to be nearly cleared up.
