General Update #225 - Tuesday, November 24, 2020

Monday, November 23, 2020 - Addendum

4:30 p.m. - Joyce found asleep in her recliner.

6 p.m. - Bathroom trip.

7 p.m. - Finished dinner (Famous Mashed Potato bowl without corn and 1/2 biscuit). Joyce at over half of the bowl of food.

8 p.m. - Evening medication.

Tuesday, November 24, 2020

8:30 a.m. - Jess arrived at farmhouse, finding Joyce awake and planning projects for the day. Joyce was in a slightly cranky mood. Jess talked to Joyce about needing a shower and this increased Joyce's crankiness. Jess let Joyce know that the nurse was arriving to visit her today and that Dusty would be out this afternoon.

8:42 a.m. - BP 135/77, pulse 79. BGL @ 110.

9:15 a.m. - Morning medication administered with nutritional shake.

9:17 a.m. - Breakfast (2 slices of French toast and syrup). All but four bites of breakfast finished by 9:45 a.m.

10:05 a.m. - Bathroom (Joyce soiled herself, type 6/7 bowel movement). Jess assisted Joyce with cleanup, putting a fresh skirt onto Joyce and sanitized the toilet seat riser. PT walk to living room and Joyce returned to her recliner ~10:22 a.m.

10:30 a.m. - Joyce stretched out for a nap.

12:25 p.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse to find Joyce in bathroom attempting to clean herself up following soiling herself in her recliner. Jess had not replaced garbage bag in trash can from earlier incident in the morning, causing Joyce to panic and toss soiled diaper onto bathroom floor. Dusty assisted Joyce with cleanup and then put her into the shower. Joyce extremely upset at being showered but eventually calmed and became compliant. Load of laundry started. Weight 165.2 lbs. Following shower, wound cleaning, application of fresh barrier cream, and change into fresh clothes Joyce thanked Dusty for assisting her with he shower. Joyce was returned to her recliner ~1:20 p.m. Dusty sanitized bathroom floor, toilet riser, toilet riser handles, and sink. 

1:24 p.m. - Scam phone call to farmhouse landline intercepted by Dusty.

1:28 p.m. - BP 145/75, pulse 72. BGL @ 148.

2 p.m. - Carole (Kindred nurse) arrived to see Joyce. Vitals checked. Oxygen level at 93% (Joyce had taken her oxygen line off while Dusty was preparing lunch in the kitchen for her). Temperature checked (normal), blood pressure and pulse checked (BP 128/74). No neck pains, headaches, or dizziness reported by Joyce when asked. Legs noted to be swollen, Joyce stated that the family has been having her put her legs up and use compression stockings. Reviewed symptoms of congestive heart failure with Dusty and reviewed health log. Nurse noted the oxygen line was not being used, Dusty clarified that Joyce sneaks it off. 

Confirmed that Kindred visits have been extended through January. Carole confirmed that someone will call Dusty to schedule visit next week. Carole departed 2:15 p.m. Joyce asked why the nurse was "here spying on her." Dusty reviewed why the nurses visit Joyce and Joyce thought that it was good she had just had a shower. 

2:21 p.m. - Lunch (Chicken cordon bleu, leftover teriyaki noodles). 2 Tylenol. Joyce very concerned about what pills she was given, asking several times before taking them.

3:12 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence requiring diaper pad insert replacement. Urine passed. PT walk to living room after open sore cleaned and fresh barrier cream applied. Laundry load transferred to dryer.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
