General Update #226 - Wednesday, November 25, 2020

8 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse, finding Joyce awake and coloring. Joyce was wearing her oxygen line, very awake and talkative.

8:29 a.m. - BP 149/82, pulse 82. BGL @ 129.

Joyce provided recipe book to Dusty so he could travel to town and procure supplies for making pies.

9:20 a.m. - Morning medication with nutritional shake.

9:22 a.m. - Breakfast (4 small pancakes with butter and syrup). Breakfast finished by 9:50 a.m.

~11 a.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine and type 5 bowel movement passed. Dusty assisted with cleanup. Open wound cleaned and fresh barrier cream applied. Joyce very excited that her diaper was dry. PT walk to living room, into kitchen, and back to recliner by 11:15 a.m. Joyce resumed enrichment activity (coloring) but quickly passed out.

Old food emptied from fridge. Old potatoes emptied from cupboard. Kitchen counter cleaned for pie making preparation.

~12:30 p.m. - Craig arrived to visit and eat lunch, stayed to watch NCIS with Joyce.

12:46 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence requiring diaper pad insert change. Remainder of urine and bowel movement (type 5) passed. Wound cleaned and fresh barrier cream applied. PT walk to living room and back to recliner. Lunch declined. Joyce settled in to nap, citing fatigue.

~2:05 p.m. - Craig departed. Joyce declined bathroom trip and lunch offer.

3:06 p.m. - Joyce woke form sleeping for bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence requiring diaper pad insert change. Remaining urine passed. Wound cleaned and fresh barrier cream applied. PT walk to living room and back out to recliner.

~3:30 p.m. - Craig arrived to farmhouse to log his blood pressure and visit. 

Joyce napped for a bit, watched NCIS, then initiated enrichment activity (coloring). 

Craig departed farmhouse ~4:48 p.m.

5:47 p.m. - Dusty noticed Joyce had produced a really old cookie from a napkin she had stashed somewhere on her bookshelf beside her recliner and was attempting to gum it. Dusty asked where she had Joyce if she was finally hungry and she confirmed.

6:02 p.m. - Dinner (sweet potato with butter and honey). Dinner finished by 6:30 p.m. Evening medication with nutritional shake.

6:40 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Diaper and diaper pad replaced. Dusty cleaned Joyce's wound and applied fresh barrier cream. PT walk post toileting, Joyce walked better on this trip than on all previous trips.

Nutter Butter pie was made by Dusty and set to freeze overnight. Pie prep was conducted in farmhouse kitchen (main counter prep area sanitized, pie pans cleaned, lard refrigerated, recipes gathered, supplies organized, old/expired ingredients replaced). Jess and Dusty will make remaining pies together tomorrow morning so they are fresh for the family to enjoy. 

9:44 p.m. - Joyce very confused about her calendar (it is 2021 dated and not 2020 dated). Joyce became concerned about what year it was and how a 2021 calendar "from the future" arrived here in the present. Joyce became concerned about who paid for the calendar and Dusty informed her it was him. Joyce asked Dusty if he was ready for 2021. After he answered in the affirmative Joyce stated she thought that was good because it was "almost upon us by [her] calculations." Joyce commented that she needed to get her 2021 calendar setup and the conversation cycle repeated itself. 

9:54 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Wound cleaned and fresh barrier cream applied. Joyce declined PT walk, returning to recliner and settling in for the night.

Dusty packing up and departing farmhouse ~10:20 p.m.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
