General Update #209 - Sunday, November 8, 2020

9:15 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse. Joyce reported that Craig and Carol had arrived earlier in the morning. Joyce reported that she had taken herself to the bathroom prior to Craig and Carol's arrival.

9:30 a.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Returned to recliner ~9:47 a.m.

9:50 a.m. - Lidocaine patch applied to back. Tiger Balm patch applied to left knee.

9:55 a.m. - BP 146/90, pulse 83, BGL @ 99. 

10:05 a.m. - Morning medications administered with nutritional shake. 

10:15 a.m. - Breakfast (leftover sausage and gravy on toast). Joyce ate ~1/4 of a slice of toast amount. Breakfast abandoned at 10:45 a.m.

10:50 a.m. - Joyce began napping.

11:25 a.m. - Carol stopped by to visit, woke Joyce.

11:40 a.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. 

11:50 a.m. - Joyce resumed napping.

12:17 p.m. - Bowel incontinence, loose stool. Jess cleaned Joyce, provided fresh skirt and returned her to recliner. 

12:50 p.m. - Joyce resumed napping.

~1:40 p.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse following conclusion of Kenworthy Board of Directors' retreat. Jess had planned to depart farmhouse to work on her art commissions but remained on-site for several more hours to cover care for Joyce while Dusty participated in online call. 

4 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed.

4:44 p.m. - Marshall (Kindred PT) called Dusty's cellphone. Confirmed he will arrive tomorrow ~11 a.m. to do perform discharge documentation for Joyce (conclusion of at-home Kindred PT visits with Joyce). Dusty contacted his director to alter his out of office schedule tomorrow from the agreed upon Noon to 2 p.m. block to a 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. block. Coordinated with Jess to ensure that she could loiter until Dusty arrived at farmhouse if needed. 

5:57 p.m. - BP 129/61, pulse 74. BGL @ 85.

6:06 p.m. - Small glass of grape juice given to Joyce.

6:07 p.m. - Kindred nursing staff member called Dusty's cellphone to inform him that one of their team would be out to check on Joyce tomorrow around noon (uncertain which individual will be arriving, dependent upon weather conditions). Dusty confirmed he will be present at farmhouse.

6:15 p.m. - Cream of chicken soup and 2 saltine crackers. Evening medication. Joyce finished eating under duress ~7:20 p.m.

7:24 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Joyce extremely unstable in walking, nearly falling backward at one point. Joyce returned to recliner, declining PT walk due to fatigue. Lidocaine and Tiger Balm patches removed from Joyce. Joyce resumed napping. 

~9:17 p.m. - Joyce woke, complaining about being too hot. Blankets removed from Joyce and electric room heater adjusted to it was not blowing directly on her.

~9:27 p.m. - Electric heater turned off temporarily as Joyce said room temperature was too warm for her. Hallway pocket door opened to allow cool air from the back of the house to circulate into kitchen.

9:45 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Joyce informed Dusty that he "did not have to stay up" with her. Dusty stated that he was going to depart for home after she finished toileting and got settled in for bed. Joyce became confused, thinking that Dusty was still living at farmhouse with her. Joyce eventually recalled Dusty was married and working at the university. Joyce was returned to recliner ~9:53 p.m. Joyce was extremely unstable in walking to/from bathroom. Joyce 

Electric heater reactivated (lowered setting to 70 degrees) and pocket door closed. Joyce given fresh water mug and setup to watch Rust Valley at her request.

Dusty departing farmhouse ~10:15 p.m.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
