General Update #323 - Monday, March 1, 2021

February 28, 2021 - Addendum

Joyce stopped Dusty as he was departing the farmhouse for the night and informed him that she wanted all the lights in the house and the television switched off. Dusty asked Joyce for confirmation to that as she usually wants the television left on and playing through the night to "keep her company" and prevent her from becoming frightened of the "house noises" and "night time noises" around her.

Joyce confirmed she wanted the televisions switched off, but consented to leaving her usual night lights on for safety. Joyce expressed concern over NCIS playing because "they're hurting people!" and became quite emotionally distraught (no violent images were currently on display on the screen or had been for some time). Dusty offered to switch her programming to something less violent but Joyce could not decide what she wanted, stating again she wanted the television off. Dusty attempted to set Netflix to play the Heartland series but Joyce insisted that she didn't want "the horse people" and expressed concerns over the young people's promiscuity. Joyce wanted something simple but could not articulate what she wanted. Dusty worked on calming Joyce, leaving her watching White Christmas at her request. Joyce informed Dusty on his way out she would most likely turn it off, but she could turn it back on later. Joyce informed Dusty she would probably go to sleep soon anyway. 

Joyce did not know who Dusty was at this point in the night, referring to him as her third son, Phillip, when asked.


March 1, 2021

7:50 a.m. - Craig arrived to farmhouse, found Joyce using bathroom. Joyce said that she had not been in there long.

8:03 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse, found Joyce awake in her recliner with oxygen line in place.

8:05 a.m. - BP 152/94, pulse 74. BGL @ 139.

Joyce reported no suffering from nightmares last night. Joyce currently watching NCIS (which Craig had put on for her). Joyce asked Jess what was happening in the show.

8:10 a.m. - Joyce given juice to drink. Drank half.

8:33 a.m. - Morning medication with nutritional shake.

8:37 a.m. - Breakfast (egg in toast and whole banana). 

9:03 a.m. - Carole (Kindred) called Dusty's cellphone and left a message. She will arrive to the farmhouse ~2:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. to inspect Joyce.

9:17 a.m. - Joyce finished breakfast.

9:24 a.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Barrier cream applied to pressure wound on Joyce's right buttock. Jess checked Joyce's left-side wound on pelvis, barrier cream applied by Dusty last night was still in place. Joyce returned to her recliner by 9:30 a.m.

9:50 a.m. - Joyce began napping.

12:40 p.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse, found Joyce napping upright in her recliner with oxygen line in place. Joyce woke herself up and informed Dusty that she had "been awake all morning, waiting for someone to show up." Craig arrived into farmhouse shortly afterward.

12:41 p.m. - BP 112/66, pulse 71. BGL @ 176.

Bathroom trip declined.

12:45 p.m. - Joyce finished the half glass of juice she was given earlier in the day with 2 Tylenol and cranberry supplement.

Bathroom trip declined.

12:56 p.m. - Lunch (leftover Hamburger Helper, leftover sweet potato fries, sugar free Pepsi, baby bell cheese wheel). Joyce ate very slowly. Lunch abandoned at 2:17 p.m. - had eaten everything but 1/2 of Hamburger Helper, requested Dusty save it for her to eat for dinner.

Bathroom trip declined. 

Craig returned and asked about getting Joyce COVID-19 vaccine as some are apparently available at a facility in Moscow according to information he received from Carol. Dusty updated Craig that Joyce was on the waitlist for receiving one from Moscow Medical. 

2:29 p.m. - Carole (Kindred) arrived to farmhouse to check on Joyce. Carole expressed a shared confusion to Dusty why Debra renewed visits for Joyce just over the pressure wound on Joyce's buttock. Vitals taken - temperature 97.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Oxygen level at 95%, pulse 70. BP 110/70. 

Carole reviewed health log kept by family care providers with Dusty. High praise given for data being collected - urine/bowel output, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels.

Bowel movement and urinary incontinence issues reviewed. Miralax confirmed to be helping counteract constipation caused by Tramadol.

Confirmed that Joyce's mobility and overall pain levels improved since Tramadol usage renewed.

Joyce's appetite self-reported as being "okay." Dusty confirmed Joyce was doing much better overall with her appetite. Joyce confirmed to not be using metformin anymore. 

Carole inspected pressure wound on buttock and abrasion wound on Joyce's pelvis. Confirmed family caregivers are proceeding correctly for treatment of both wounds. Carole will recommend to Debra that Joyce be discharged from Kindred visits as Joyce's family caregivers are doing an excellent job on taking care of her.

Carole departed farmhouse ~2:43 p.m.

2:46 p.m. - Enrichment activity (laundry folding). Completed by 3:11 p.m.

Joyce began napping, waking frequently then falling back asleep.

4:50 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence, early bladder release. Dusty cleaned Joyce up from earlier bathroom trip where she soiled herself (must've gone solo sometime after Joyce left).

Joyce showered. Bathroom sanitized. Shoes sanitized.

Weight 159.6 lbs.

Joyce returned to recliner ~5:43 p.m. after PT walk to living room.

Dusty departing farmhouse ~5:50 p.m.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
