General Update #330 - Monday, March 8, 2021

8:17 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse, finding Joyce using bathroom. Craig on-site and informed Jess that Joyce had been in there for ~10 minutes already. Joyce had removed her own diaper. Bowel movement (type 4). Jess had to help coach Joyce on how to pass her stool again as Joyce had forgotten what to do. Joyce reported chest pain when breathing while on the toilet. Jess believes the chest pain Joyce experiencing was due to Joyce sitting hunched over her knees while sitting on the toilet for an extended period of time unattended. Joyce also reported experiencing a headache to Jess (like "pressure"). 

Joyce reported that she had nightmares throughout the night which kept waking her up.

Barrier cream applied to Joyce's wounds. New diaper and diaper pad insert. 

Joyce returned to recliner by 8:50 a.m.

8:52 a.m. - BP 160/89, pulse 76. BGL @ 149.

Joyce states that her headache is really hurting her (holding her head with her hands).

9 a.m. - Morning medication with nutritional shake.

9:03 a.m. - Breakfast (egg sandwich, cup of peaches).

9:05 a.m. - Joyce holding her right cheek, pinched in her left hand. When Jess asked why Joyce was doing this Joyce responded that her mouth hurt. Jess inspected Joyce's mouth and saw a possible sore on top plus old root of tooth. Joyce reported her head was still hurting.

9:15 a.m. - Jess closed all the curtains in the kitchen and main living area of the farmhouse, and turned off all the lights except for main light above the dining table to darken the ambient light for Joyce. Joyce finished 1/4 of her sandwich before abandoning the rest. Jess put leftovers into fridge.

9:30 a.m. - Joyce napping.

10 a.m. - Joyce woke briefly, stated that her head was feeling a bit better but that she was going to sleep more.

12:21 p.m. -  Dusty arrived to farmhouse, finding Joyce asleep in her recliner. Joyce woke easily. Joyce claims she still has a headache which didn't leave her feeling too well. 

BP 146/82, pulse 74. BGL @ 140.

12:25 p.m. - Glass of apple/mango/peach juice with 2 Tylenol and cranberry supplement.

12:49 p.m. - Lifeline system's automated message played, prompting for a test if the necklace call button.

12:51 p.m. - Lunch (mac & cheese). Joyce struggled to remain awake even with Dusty cajoling her to remain awake and eat. Craig arrived shortly afterward to visit. Dusty updated him on Joyce's headache and steps taken to alleviate it thus far. Craig managed to coax Joyce to eat one bit (2 noodles) of her mac & cheese.

1:50 p.m. - Craig departed. Joyce ate one more mouthful of noodles and was given tramadol. Joyce continuing to fall asleep and could barely remain awake to take medication.

2:19 p.m. - Bathroom trip declined, Joyce stated she would take herself "when she felt like going." Joyce refused to allow Dusty to take her mac & cheese away and stated that she would work on eating it.

2:20 p.m. - Dusty departed farmhouse.

5:36 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Diaper pad insert replaced.

6:30 p.m. - Dinner (fish filets, French fries, green beans). Evening medication. Dinner finished by 8 p.m.

8:05 p.m. - Bathroom. Diaper pad insert replaced.

8:30 p.m. - Setup for bed.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
