General Update #328 - Saturday, March 6, 2021

9:15 a.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse. Craig already on-site, informing Dusty he had only recently arrived himself. Joyce awake with oxygen line in place (Craig had recently directed her to put it on). Joyce fairly alert and talkative.

9:20 a.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Diaper & pad replaced. Remainder of urine passed. Hemorrhoid reduced from yesterday - hemorrhoid cream applied. Left pelvic wound inspected, healing nicely. Barrier cream applied to right butt cheek pressure sore. PT walk into living room.

9:31 a.m. - BP 178/94, pulse 77. BGL @ 126.

9:35 a.m. - Nutritional shake with morning medication.

9:44 a.m. - Breakfast (avocado spread on toast, Baby Bell cheese wheel, cubed watermelon). Joyce informed Dusty she hates avocado. Avocado toast replaced with cinnamon twist donut. 

10:04 a.m. - Dusty departing farmhouse to head back to Moscow for appointment.

12:41 p.m. - Dusty returns to farmhouse. Joyce asleep in her recliner without oxygen line in place. Breakfast tray set onto her walker's seat. Joyce did not eat her watermelon cubes - cited she could not eat them but could not explain when asked if she was sick of watermelon - if it tasted bad (it did not), if it was too tough, or if her mouth/teeth were sore. Donut and cheese wheel eaten. 

Bathroom trip declined, citing fatigue.

Joyce's mental state more groggy and confused at this point in the day. Joyce slow on responding to verbal interrogatives or conversation. Joyce very sleepy and kept passing out.

1 p.m. - Joyce woke herself up, began shuffling items on her chairside shelving around and then started cleaning her fingernails.

1:18 p.m. - Dusty trimmed Joyce's fingernails.

1:21 p.m. - Enrichment activity - laundry folding.

1:30 p.m. - Lunch declined. Bathroom trip declined. 

1:45 p.m. - Lunch declined. Bathroom trip declined.

2:09 p.m. - BP 120/60, pulse 69. BGL @ 147.

2:12 p.m. - Lunch (hamburger with cheddar cheese, whole banana, sugar-free Pepsi). 2 Tylenol and cranberry supplement. Joyce ate slowly, falling asleep constantly. Could not be kept awake even with constant pestering. 

4:35 p.m. - Lunch abandoned. Joyce had only eaten one and half bites of her sandwich. Nothing else eaten. Pepsi 1/2 drank. Resumed sleeping hard.

5 p.m. - Joyce woke herself, citing nightmares. Joyce very confused and in a slightly alarmed state. Did not know who Dusty was but recognized him as "someone she knows." Joyce had difficulty in "figuring out what was real and what was dream" when talking things through with Dusty. Joyce could not recall what she was having bad dreams about but recognized after some effort that she had been dreaming and that she needed someone to talk to her to "reassure her that this was the right place." Joyce proceeded to not be very responsive to talking with Dusty even through she continued to request to talk and be talked to in effort to "figure out what was real." Joyce did not want to sit in silence. Dusty continued to attempt visiting with Joyce (who seemed to take comfort from a familiar voice) until Joyce was calmed. 

6 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release. Remainder of urine passed. Shower refused. Joyce hostile - Dusty called "mean and cruel" for making her shower. Diaper and diaper pad insert replaced. 

2 PT walks undertaken to/from living room and to kitchen. Joyce walking well, only slight pain reported from her hemorrhoid and pressure sore on right butt cheek. Lower leg PT in chair and standing at kitchen counter completed. Joyce returned to her recliner by ~6:47 p.m.

6:49 p.m. - Sugar-free Pepsi from lunch finished. Dinner declined.

7:16 p.m. - BP 118/67, pulse 66. BGL @ 117.

7:34 p.m. - Evening medication with nutritional shake.

7:36 p.m. - Dinner (Chicken pot pie, whole banana). Joyce picked at pie, citing difficulty in eating most of it. Dinner finished by 9:02 p.m.

9:04 p.m. - Bathroom trip without incident. Urine passed. Hemorrhoid and barrier cream applied. Returned to recliner by 9:11 p.m.

Joyce setup for bed, legs elevated. Dusty departing farmhouse ~9:20 p.m.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
