General Update #335 - Saturday, March 13, 2021

8:50 a.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse after running errands for Jess in Moscow. Joyce awake in recliner with oxygen line in place. Joyce reported no nightmares last night. Joyce had been up and "puttering around the house." Joyce had changed into a new sweatshirt and put on a necklace from her jewelry cabinet. Breakfast refused. Bathroom trip refused - Joyce claimed she took herself to bathroom earlier in morning and did not need to go now.

8:55 a.m. - BP 155/81, pulse 74. BGL @ 131.

8:58 a.m. - Nutritional shake with morning medication.

9:02 a.m. - Bathroom floor and toilet seat cleaned. Evidence Joyce wet to bathroom at least once since Dusty left farmhouse last night, passing urine.

9:05 a.m. - Breakfast (donut, whole banana).  Finished by 9:35 a.m.

9:41 a.m. - Joyce soiled herself in recliner (type 5 bowel movement). Remainder of type 5 bowel movement and urine passed. Additional type 6 bowel movement passed while Joyce on toilet. Joyce was showered without protest - Joyce very compliant and even helpful. Fastest assisted shower since returning to farmhouse on September 11, 2020. Shoes sanitized. Bathroom floor and seat riser sanitized.

Weight 2 159.4 lbs. PT walk, returned to recliner ~10:39 a.m.

10:40 a.m. - Nasal canula replaced. Joyce began napping off and on.

12:36 p.m. - Lunch (turkey and cheddar sandwich with mayo and mustard, macaroni salad, tapioca pudding, glass of pineapple/banana/orange juice). 2 Tylenol and cranberry supplement. Dusty had to negotiate with Joyce, who did not want to eat.

Dusty left farmhouse ~12:46 p.m. to move items for Jess at their apartment in Moscow. Joyce confirmed she would be fine left eating her lunch and would probably nap when finished.

6:40 p.m. - Dusty returns to farmhouse, finding Joyce awake and reading the weekend newspaper without oxygen line in place. Joyce appears to have eaten all of her lunch except for 1/2 of her juice (which she had forgotten she had beside her chair on her shelves) and 1/2 her sandwich, which she put into the refrigerator "to have later."

6:46 p.m. - BP 157/77, pulse 69. BGL @ 130. Bathroom trip declined, Joyce informed Dusty she had taken herself to the bathroom once while he was gone (passing urine) and claims that she took herself for 5 PT walks into the living room and back as well.

Evidence Joyce had toileted at least twice between 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. while Dusty was out. Urinary incontinence with pads requiring replacement on both trips.

6:53 p.m. - Evening medication with leftover juice from lunch.

6:55 p.m. - Dinner (ravioli with tomato sauce, peaches & cream, small piece of chocolate mint cake). Nutritional shake. Dinner finished by 8:45 p.m., all but 1/4 of ravioli eaten. Joyce ate very slowly, reported that her mouth was still hurting. Orajel refused, citing she "wanted to taste [her] food."

8:57 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Diaper pad replaced. Remainder of urine passed. PT walk, returning to recliner by 9:07 p.m.

Water glasses refilled.

9:10 p.m. - Ready for bed.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
