General Update #337 - Monday, March 15, 2021

8:06 a.m. - Craig at farmhouse. Joyce informed him that she had already made a bathroom trip at some point prior to his arrival. Joyce indicated that she could go to bathroom again. Joyce sneezing some.

8:15 a.m. - Jess arrived to farmhouse. Joyce's nose is running "bad." Joyce did not have oxygen line in place. 

8:17 a.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. New diaper and pad. Remainder of urine passed.

8:35 a.m. - BP 176/94, pulse 77. BGL @ 175. Joyce still sneezing. Reports no bad dreams. Joyce could remember that she slept all night. Joyce thinks the sneezing and runny nose started this morning.

8:45 a.m. - Joyce is really miserable - wiping her nose and the sore in her mouth. Jess had Joyce apply more Orajel on the mouth sore. Joyce also has a small cough.

9:04 a.m. - Morning medication and nutritional shake.

9:10 a.m. - Breakfast (3 pancakes with syrup, whole banana). Finished by 9:50 a.m. Joyce seemed to have a pretty good appetite.

9:51 a.m. - Bathroom. Bowel incontinence, diaper had to be cut off. Remainder of bowel movement passed (type 6). Jess had to coach Joyce to "push" every so often to keep her passing her stool. Joyce doesn't know when to do it when left on her own. New diaper and diaper pad insert. Toilet seat sanitized. Returned to recliner by 10:30 a.m.

Joyce coughed up mucus (clear) 

10:31 a.m. - Enrichment activity (folding clothes). Mucinex appears to have finally kicked in.

10:36 a.m. - Joyce left happily folding laundry. Jess departed farmhouse to go to work.

12:35 p.m. - Dusty arrived to farmhouse, finding Joyce awake without oxygen line in place. Dusty put away folded laundry. 

Joyce declined bathroom trip.

12:44 p.m. - BP 166/80, pulse 69. BGL @ 231.

12:47 p.m. - Nutritional shake with 2 Tylenol and cranberry supplement. Claritin administered to treat potential dust allergy symptoms.

12:57 p.m. - Lunch (chili, cornbread, tapioca pudding). Finished by 2:10 p.m.

2:16 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Remainder of urine passed. New diaper and pad. Short-term memory issues had - forgot why she was in the bathroom and where she was (did not recognize the farmhouse or Dusty). Returned to recliner by 2:30 p.m. after PT walk into living room.

2:32 p.m. - Setup to nap, Dusty departing to return to work.

6:15 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Changed pad.

6:30 p.m. - Dinner (Zuppa soup, bread strip, evening meds). Joyce reporting her mouth is sore.

8:43 p.m. - Craig notes that Joyce back in her chair after making bathroom trip. Nose is still running.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
