General Update #340 - Thursday, March 18, 2021

8:03 a.m. - Craig on-site at farmhouse. Joyce seems well. Joyce reports that she went to the bathroom around 7 a.m.

8:14 a.m. - Dusty covering Jess' shift, arriving to farmhouse to find Joyce awake with oxygen line in place. No nightmares recalled by Joyce.

8:15 a.m. - BP 171/83, pulse 72. BGL @ 150.

8:18 a.m. - Nutritional shake with morning medication. 

8:22 a.m. - Breakfast (sausage McMuffin, applesauce, small glass pineapple banana orange juice). 

8:28 a.m. - Orajel applied to mouth sore after Joyce refused to eat, citing mouth pain. Joyce had to be instructed on how to use Orajel as she claimed she had not used it before and did not know how it worked.

9:18 a.m. - Joyce irritated and hostile, having difficulty communicating verbally. Dusty determined that Joyce wanted a 2nd nutritional shake. Joyce was frustrated that she "had nothing to drink." Joyce did not want either of her two full water glasses or the small glass of pineapple banana orange juice he had brought with her breakfast.

Joyce continued to be upset - explained to Dusty she was upset that she does not get a say in what she is fed. Dusty attempted unsuccessfully for Joyce to explain what she wanted (or did not want) - Joyce turtled and fell back onto her "I don't know" passivity and remained irritated for a while longer before Dusty was able to distract her onto a different topic.

10 a.m. - Breakfast finished. Joyce started reading the newspaper but immediately passed out at began napping. Joyce woke intermittently - Dusty attempted to get her to rise and go to bathroom on each occasion but Joyce refused.

12:19 p.m. - Bathroom trip. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release. Remainder of urine passed. Flatus passed. Diaper and pad replaced. Toilet and bathroom floor sanitized. Shower declined, PT walk declined - extreme fatigue cited.

1:25 p.m. - Sugar-free Pepsi (at Joyce's demand) with 2 Tylenol and cranberry supplement.

1:28 p.m. - BP 144/80, pulse 73. BGL @ 127.

1:34 p.m. - Lunch (Salisbury steak, mac & cheese, tapioca pudding, whole banana). 

2:55 p.m. - Lunch abandoned. Joyce having attitude problem - "Not hungry!" Joyce ate her tapioca pudding and banana under protest. Leftovers placed into fridge.

3 p.m. - Bathroom. Urinary incontinence. Early bladder release. Remainder of urine passed. New diaper and pad. Shower declined. Toilet seat riser and floor sanitized. PT walk. returned to recliner by 3:15 p.m.

5:21 p.m. - Bathroom. Diaper and pad changed. Joyce took herself to her bedroom and changed her clothes. 

5:42 p.m. - Enrichment activity - coloring. Dishes put away.

6:30 p.m. - Dinner (tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwich).

7:55 p.m. - Evening medication.

8:20 p.m. - Bathroom. Diaper and pad changed.

8:30 p.m. - Relaxing, feet elevated.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
