General Update #54

10:48 a.m. - Jennifer called Dusty. All information received for Joyce, planning on arriving at 11:30 a.m. Dusty will not be able to enter Aspen Park facility, will send electronic copies of all documents Joyce signs to Dusty for record keeping and transparency. Gritman document Jennifer received has Joyce's insurance information, medical documentation, and plan for care. 

Aspen Park will have incontinence supplies for Joyce. Laundry is done by Aspen Park done on site and 3-5 changes of clothing recommended, more can be brought in if needed. Dusty confirmed he has prepared some already and will send them in with the driver. The van driver will take Joyce to the room they have setup for her after her arrival and their nurses will do an assessment. The Aspen Park nursing team will call Dusty with any questions. Jennifer asked if Joyce will have other contacts and Dusty confirmed he will provide that via email later after consulting family. 

Jennifer confirmed that the orders received in paperwork from Gritman to have stint removed with Dr. Keizur, also will schedule follow up appointment with Dr. Collins (Mom's primary care provider). While Joyce is at Aspen Park, the appointment with Dr. Collins will be done via telehealth/video conference with Joyce and an Aspen Park nurse on one end of the line and Dr. Collins on the other. Family members could also be involved in the call.

Jennifer checked with the cancer center yesterday, confirmed that there was an appointment scheduled for Joyce to see them in August from before last week's accident. Family wants to just delay spinal cancer inspection until then? To be determined. Aspen Park all right coordinating travel to cancer center if family wants her to go there ahead of August appointment.

11:01 a.m. - Joyce asked with some concern, "Do I ever get to go home?" Dusty confirmed she does in about 4 weeks. 

11:03 a.m. - LaRae arrived to remove Joyce's IV and begin getting her dressed as prep for transfer.

11:05 a.m. - LaRae administered 2nd COVID-19 test to Joyce, per Aspen Park's requirements.

11:06 a.m. - Joyce asked where she was going. Dusty stated Aspen Park. Dusty asked if she remembered that and Joyce stated she will try to do that. Joyce concerned that Dusty cannot go with her to Aspen Park. Dusty confirmed that family can call and even eventually visit during scheduled times, so in a way it will be better than when she is at Gritman. 

11:33 a.m. - Dusty received questions from Joyce about the plan for her and reviewed what would occur. Joyce asked for different skirts than her denim ones that Dusty packed. Dusty confirmed he will go out to the farm to retrieve list of more comfortable clothes from where Joyce thinks they are and then bring them to Aspen Park facility. Joyce asked Dusty if she did this to herself by falling. Dusty confirmed. Joyce concerned about her bills and electricity being shut off for while she is gone. Dusty confirmed that Joyce's family is taking care of the bills and the farmhouse. Someone will be out there to ensure nothing goes wrong. 

11:37 a.m. - Aspen Park arrived to transfer Joyce. Dusty assisting and then traveling to farm shortly, will provide additional updates from there.

07/24/2020 Dusty missed calling Joyce due to personal schedule conflicts. 07/25/2020 Dusty called in to check with Joyce at 1 p.m. following a training session he attended for Scouts BSA. Lunch today was spaghetti "with a delicious meat sauce," a side of veggies and dessert was vanilla pudding. Joyce confessed that she might not have remembered it had the tray not still been sitting beside her with the remnants of the meal. She had today off from physical therapy but did have speech/mental therapy. She said that some of the questions that the speech therapists ask her are "laughable" because they ask her if she has lived in rural areas and then ask her about what she thinks living in the rural areas are like after already verifying she lives in the country. Dusty suggested that the therapists are trying to use something basic, like knowledge of Joyce living in the country, to then ask questions about living in the country to see how Joyce recalls information or rela...

General Update #95

07/27/2020 Dusty called Joyce to check in and wish her a good night while he was preparing dinner for Jess. Joyce was alert and quite talkative. Dusty reviewed the plan for the telehealth appointment scheduled for tomorrow and Joyce stated that no one had told her that was occurring. Dusty suggested to Joyce that they were going to visit with her tomorrow morning ahead of the appointment based on what Rachael had told him and Joyce concurred. Dusty questioned Joyce about her decline of participating in the urinary incontinence therapy as well as her reported lack of performance with physical therapy. Joyce stated that she had been looking forward to the urinary incontinence therapy work but according to her they only spoke to her once about it and then never again approached her about it.  Joyce felt like they don't do enough PT with her even though she wants to do more PT. General Update #85

Dusty and Jess called Joyce in the evening on July 4 to wish her a happy Independence Day.  Joyce reported that her pain levels were fairly low, even after doing upper body physical therapy work earlier in the day. She was a little disappointed with her meals served. She had been hoping that they would serve hot dogs and potato salad for lunch or dinner but none were to be had. Joyce could not recall what she ate for any of her three meals she was served. At the time of the phone call Joyce had not seen any fireworks out her north facing window but she could hear several concussive blasts of fireworks being set off near Dusty and Jess' apartment.  Joyce said that she did not see or hear the Let Freedom Ring Tour (a B-25 Mitchell, a F-7F Tigercat, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P40N Warhawk, and a P51D Mustang), which was sponsored by Hangar180 , fly overhead around 5:45 p.m. but she might've missed it most likely owing to having been napping at the time.
