General Update #80
Dusty called Joyce at 8:20 a.m. but due to nurse being in the room the phone call was ended.
Dusty attempted to call again before Joyce's lunch hour but there was no answer.
Dusty called and connected with Joyce at 3 p.m. She reported that they have been having her walk the hallways throughout the morning and early afternoon. They usually have a wheelchair follow along behind Joyce as she walks so she has a ready place to rest if needed as she goes along. Additionally they had her do more resistance training and movement exercises. She said that the therapist wanted to "keep it light since it was Friday."
For lunch today the cook made hamburgers and came into the room to speak with Joyce to see what she wanted to make them special for each resident. The cook said that corn on the cob was going to be the side, but switched Joyce's side to potato salad at her request. Joyce said that she feels spoiled as they are taking such good care of her at Aspen Park.
Joyce reported that it wasn't extremely cool in her new room, but it wasn't too hot either. At the time of the call it was comfortable. They have her sitting near the window at the time of the phone call with Dusty, so she has ready access to the bit of airflow coming in from outside.
Her pain levels are fluctuating between 3-4 when idle, and when moving too much it spikes up to around 7 out of 10. She says that she "is surviving!" when asked how she thinks she is doing overall. She complained of difficulty and increased pains when attempting to stand up from the recliner chair as needed through her day and Dusty reminded Joyce that the recliner is electric and it can be used to help her stand upright. Joyce lamented that Dusty was not able to come in due to COVID-19 restrictions to help her understand how to work the controls. Dusty reminded Joyce that she can ask the nurses for help with that. Joyce confirmed that she could ask them and then praised them for how well they have been treating her during her stay. She is still sleeping upright in her chair overnight.
Dusty let Joyce know that he would try to drop by once he was off work to confirm her new room window location to share with family and also to drop off the letters and cards that have arrived for her.
